GIS
The GIS (Geographic Information System) Division supports all City mapping functions. This division maintains several infrastructure, land use, and addressing map layers for use in map making, general planning and problem solving. The division provides maps, data and geo-spatial analysis services to city departments and the public. The department develops and maintains a centralized GIS database accessible by server, desktop, and web-based applications and coordinates with federal, state, and local agencies in sharing and developing data. The GIS Division also processes requests for property and infrastructure data from all City offices and the public.

What is the role of GIS in planning?
GIS helps city and planners understand what, why, and where something is happening to assess past and existing conditions, project future conditions, and model alternative scenarios to not only support informed decisions on initiatives, programs, and plans, but to also serve the public.
