Department Description:

The Utility Billing Customer Service Department compiles meter readings based on meters read, billing of water, sewer, and garbage collection, issues work orders for rechecks of meters, turn on and off of services, monitors and collects on delinquent accounts, and provides customer service with the ability to serve the customer in an appropriate manner.

Location & Hours:

We are located inside the City Hall Building at 1376 East Ninth Street.  As you walk in the front door the Utility Billing Customer Service Department is located to the right.

The office hours are Monday-Friday from 8:00 a.m.–5:00 p.m. The office is also open during the lunch hour for your convenience.

 Billing:

Rates for utility accounts are established through ordinance as adopted by the Alamogordo City Commission.  Bills are due and payable fifteen (15) days from the billing date and are considered past due ten (10) days from the due date.

Delinquency/Disconnect Notices:

Delinquency/Disconnect Notices are mailed to the customer advising them of a past due amount.  The customer is required to pay the bill by the day specified in the notice to avoid a delinquency processing fee and disconnection of service.

Once service is disconnected the customer must pay all past due amounts and the delinquency processing fee before service can be reinstated.

 Deposits:

Deposits for utility accounts are established through ordinance as adopted by the Alamogordo City Commission (Article 28-03-100 Alamogordo Code of Ordinances). Deposits shall be paid by the applicant for water and sewer service at the time of application for service.

Testing of Meters:

Any utility customer who feel that a water meter is not registering accurately may apply to have his or her water meter tested. The written request must be submitted to the Utility Billing Customer Service Department and must be accompanied by a testing fee.  The testing fee wil be established by the Utility Billing Customer Service Department based on the cost of the current certified laboratory fee for the meter size being tested.

Upon request,  the water meter will be tested by a certified laboratory. If the meter registers more than five (5) percent high, the City will replace the meter, refund the meter testing fee, and adjust the contested monthly water bill if appropriate. If the meter is found to be accurate within five (5) percent, or if the meter is slow, the City shall reinstall a meter and no refund of the meter testing will be made.
