Department Description:
The Alamo Senior Center provides a variety of services for persons 60 and over. The program is governed by Federal Guidelines, administered by the NM Aging & Long Term Services Department, and sponsored by the City of Alamogordo.
Mission Statement:
The Alamo Senior Center's mission is to provide services for persons 60 and over and their spouses regardless of age. The Center is a social environment, which provides support, education, recreation, nutrition and entertainment for elderly persons in Alamogordo and the surrounding area. The Center's goal is to provide an opportunity to maintain a vital role in life for all persons.
Upcoming Events:
2012 Public Hearing
Tularosa Senior Center will be hosting a public forum to listen to the needs and concerns within the senior community on February 10th, 2012. Various directors of senior programs and representatives of the Zia Therapy Respite Program will be on hand to listen to your suggestions.
If you can not attend the hearing, please stop by the Alamo Senior Center Front Desk to fill out an input form. Alamo Senior Center will also be offering transportation to Tularosa Senior Center for those who wish to attend.
Help a Child in Need
The Alamogordo Senior Volunteer Programs has collaborated with Love INC who sponsor’s a weekend backpack program that supplies needy school-aged children with non-perishable food items to hold them through the weekend.
One of the drop off points is located at the Alamo Senior Center, 2201 Puerto Rico, Alamogordo at the Senior Volunteer Programs office. Types of food items would be individual servings of tuna and crackers, dried fruit, pudding cups, fruit juices; items that will fit into a backpack.
These efforts are part of the Alamogordo Senior Volunteer Programs participation in the “MLK Jr. Day of Service” and will be an on-going event.
Valentine Bake Sale
The Senior Companion and Foster Grandparent Programs are having their annual Valentine’s Day Bake Sale on February 14, 2012 from 9 A.M. to 1 P.M. at the Alamo Senior Center located at 2201 Puerto Rico Avenue.
All proceeds will go to help the Foster Grandparent and Senior Companion volunteers with their activity expenses.
Animal Village Pet Adoption Day

Memoir Writing Workshop
will be hosting a continual workshop created
to help seniors write the stories of their lives.
Writing will be about yourself, the people who shaped you, significant memories, love and work, the good and bad, and about lessons and legacies.
Workshop will be hosted every Friday
from
1:30 p.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Cost: $2.50
(to cover the cost of workbook)
