The New Mexico Senior Olympics, Inc. (NMSO) is a private nonprofit 501-C3 organization founded in April 1979. The NMSO, Inc. is sanctioned by National Senior Games Association (NSGA) to qualify New Mexico athletes participation in the biennial (every other year) National Senior Games conducted by NSGA, formerly the United States National Senior Sports Organization (USNSO).
The National Games will be held in odd numbered years alternating to various locations Most athletes qualify for Nationals the year before at the state Games, which are usually held in August. National Games are held Biannually, however, New Mexico State Olympic Games are held annually.
An athlete must qualify at the local level in order to participate in the State games. Alamogordo Local Competion is in the Spring (usually April) for the State Games held at a designated site in the State in August. Anyone 50 and over is encouraged to compete. Information concerning Senior Olympics is available by calling 439-4150. Local Senior Olympic meetings are held the first Thursday of each month, January through September, at 1:00 PM at the Alamo Senior Center. Anyone 50 years of age or older is welcome to participate and attend the meetings.
Besides the qualifying dates, Senior Olympics in Alamogordo has become a year- round activity. Tournaments are now held in Table Tennis, Pool, Bowling and Tennis. You will find many Olympians in the swimming pools and on the track; walking with others in the Mall or near their homes. See your local Senior Olympic Coordinator for details.
