RETIRED & SENIOR VOLUNTEER PROGRAM (RSVP)
MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Retired & Senior Volunteer Programs (RSVP) is to encourage Otero County residents age 55 and older to use their time, talents and life long experience to improve their community’s critical needs. The services provided by RSVP volunteers are in seven program emphasis areas: Health & Nutrition, Human Needs Services, Education, Environment, Public Safety, Community & Economic Development, and Faith Based Services. The SVP Staff will provide the training; encouragement and support that Senior Volunteers need to carry out their volunteer duties and achieve their own personal goals. The SVP Staff will endeavor to impress upon our volunteers the community’s appreciation for their significant positive impact in improving the way of life in our community. A primary part of our mission is to educate our community on the valuable services that our Retired & Senior Volunteer Program (RSVP) provide in our community; and to provide our volunteers with the recognition they so richly deserve.

The RSVP, is sponsored by the City of Alamogordo, has been providing services to Otero County since 1975.

The RSVP is part of the Senior Corps, a network of national service programs that provides older Americans with the opportunity to apply and contribute their life long skills, talents, and experiences to improve the critical needs of their communities. SENIOR COMPANION PROGRAM (SCP)
MISSION STATEMENT

The mission of the Senior Companion Program is to provide meaningful retirement opportunities for low-income persons over sixty (60) by providing the mechanism for them to assist other adults who need person-to-person support because of loneliness, isolation, illness, or disability. The Senior Volunteer Program Office Staff will provide the training, encouragement and support that our SCP Volunteers need in order to carry out their program duties and to achieve their own personal goals.

The SCP, sponsored by the City of Alamogordo, has been providing services to seniors since 1995.

Senior Companion Program (SCP)

The SCP is part of the Senior Corps, a network of national service programs that provides older Americans with the opportunity to apply their life experiences to meeting the community needs. Senior Companions serve one-on-one with the frail and elderly. They assist with activities of daily living, but above all they provide companionship. Senior Companions also provide short periods of relief to primary caregivers. Because of the program, thousands of citizens are able to live in their homes independently, with dignity. Many Seniors Companions serve clients for several years and form meaningful friendships.
