The Alamo Senior Center is open to anyone 60 and older and their spouse regardless of age. Those who are age 50-59 may join as an associate member for a yearly fee of $50.00. Associate members may enjoy the activities; but must pay for any meals and/or for transportation services if used.
The Center is open Monday through Friday from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. Some groups may arrange to open the center on weekends or in the evening to accommodate their activities.
Congregate Meals are served Monday through Friday; except holidays from 11:00 - 1:00. The meal provides 1/3 of the RDA. A donation of $2.50 is requested for the meals.
Meals on Wheels is a program for the homebound elderly who have no one in the home to prepare a meal for them. The noon meal is the same meal served to the congregate participants. A cold breakfast is also available to those who wish to receive it. The two meals provide 100% of the DRI. Weekend meals are also available for those who would like to have them. They are frozen and must be heated. A donation of $2.50 is requested for these meals.
Homemaker Services are also available for homebound and those who are at risk of losing their independence. The cost of this service is on a graduated scale depending on their ability to pay.
Assisted Transportation is provided on scheduled runs to the Senior Center, home and for shopping, doctor appointments, beauty shop, and post office.
Recreation is available on a daily basis. These activities include Quilting, Silversmithing, Lapidary, Dances, Billiards, Art, Chorus, Cards, Puzzles, Games, and Reading material.
Education programs are provided on a scheduled basis. These include Spanish classes, Art classes, Technical classes, Beginning Band, Poetry Club, Insurance programs and any other topics of senior interest.
Health activities are also included in the schedule. These include Health films, Health fairs, and Senior Olympics.
Several support groups meet at the center as well as other senior oriented retirement groups.
The Center also produces a monthly newsletter called "The Sentinel" which includes the daily menu and the upcoming activities.
