Our preschool programs are held on Mondays and Wednesdays, from 10:30-11:30 (same thing both days, so you can pick the one that works best for you). Each week will be one of three programs:
Traditional Story Times
Held every other week, story time will start with a few stories, songs, and finger plays, then end with a related craft. As always, we are working on pre-reading skills, even though it isn’t (we hope) obvious. To see what some of those skills are, and how you can work them into your daily routine, check out this great PDF– stolen from another library, of course! http://www2.westminsterlibrary.org/kids/6PRSSummary.pdf
Think of this as pre-science (and technology, engineering and math) for toddlers. Just as with prereading skills, learning to think scientifically can (and should) be developed early on. We will be exploring the world together using our senses – and we will make a mess! We will have t-shirts you can put on over your child (and yourself), but this is not the day to wear your best clothes. Parent-child interaction in this one is very important, both for the learning process and because we will sometimes have small objects that would fit in mouths.
Bring a sack lunch or snack for yourself and your child, and join us as we play with costumes, musical instruments, blocks, etc. This program combines more STEM and imaginative play with a chance for parents to relax and talk to other grown-ups. Because of possible allergies, we ask that everyone keep an eye on the food they bring and their own children, to make sure the wrong things don’t end up in the wrong mouths!
