Otero-Greentree Regional Landfill
The Otero Greentree Regional Landfill is jointly owned by Otero County and Lincoln County, serving the municipalities within these jurisdictions. The City of Alamogordo acts as the managing and fiscal agency for the facility, providing operational oversight, regulatory compliance, and administrative management.
Solid Waste Facility
The Otero Greentree Regional Landfill is a New Mexico permitted solid waste disposal facility serving the region with safe, compliant, and long-term waste management services. The facility is designed to accept residential, commercial, construction, and demolition waste generated within the service area, while operating in accordance with all applicable state and federal environmental regulations.
In addition to routine solid waste, the landfill is permitted to accept specific special waste streams, including regulated asbestos-containing material and approved sludge wastes. Acceptance of these materials is governed by strict handling, documentation, and disposal requirements to ensure protection of public health, worker safety, and the environment.
The landfill was incorporated in January 1994 and was engineered with a projected operational lifespan of 99 years. Its design reflects a long-term regional approach to solid waste management, emphasizing environmental stewardship, regulatory compliance, and capacity planning to meet the needs of current and future generations.
The Otero Greentree Regional Landfill plays a critical role in supporting community health and sustainable growth by providing a reliable and responsibly managed disposal facility for the region.
